Falafel | The Best Felafel Recipe
Falafels are small round chickpea cookies that are fried deep in oil, then served as snacks or even main dishes. There are other snacks too, like potato patties and kuku sabzi. You can find wide range of variety in recipes and ways that felafels are prepared south of Iran.
This Persian dish has an easy instruction and you would love to learn it for the days you are tired and you just need something quick as a meal. The very positive point about falafel is that you can make the content ready and keep it in the freezer. Whenever you want to fry the balls, just discard the content, make the ball shapes and fry them. Yummy felafels are ready!

Ingredients
- 200 grams chickpeas
- 100 grams parsley
- 1 teaspoon seeds of dried coriander, caraway, turmeric, salt and pepper.
Instructions
- Put some water in a suitable bowl then put the chickpeas in the water. Let them lay in the water and Change the water for a few times (do this a day before cooking).
- Peel off the onion and cut it into either 4 or 8 pieces.
- Use an electric blender to blend all the ingredients and let the combination rest in the fridge for about 2 hours.
- Use your hands to pick up a small amount of the combination and give it a rounded shape (like walnuts or golf balls)
- Pre heat the oil and when it's hot, fry the balls in the bowl.
Topping and Serving Falafel
- This food is originally served with Pita (a type of flat bread). You can serve it with baguette or any other kinds of bread. Like cutlet and shami, it can be serves as “Loghmeh”s or sandwiches.
- This dish is served with some Lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, Torshi. Different types of sauces such as mayo, ketchup and french dressing are used as, as well.
- There’s this type of sauce made with the powder of dried skin of mangoes. which can be served with felafel, giving it a taste you have never experienced before.
- In Iranian restaurants some fried slices of eggplant are also served with Felafel, next to french fries.
- Having a cup of mint tea after this falafel is recommended.
- Cut the parsley in to smaller pieces. It is used for both topping it and serving (in the sandwiches or loghmehs)the dish. For inside the sandwich, small diced onions can be used as well.
Tips for Cooking Falafel
- The chickpeas used in Falafel must be raw, otherwise the result won’t be satisfying.
- Besides using the spices mentioned before ,you can add some nutmeg, paprika and mango powder to the mixture.
- Onions make Felafel softer and moister, so you can add one more onions to the mixture if you prefer a softer outcome.
- Before frying the balls make sure that the oil is heated up, otherwise the food might get stuck on it.
- Some people add an egg to the mixture of the ingredient, but it is not necessary.
Falafel, a dish suitable for vegetarians, can be easily cooked and served. Not many ingredients are needed and cooking it won’t take much time.
